The Rowan Blues and Jazz Society is having a “Jazz Birthday Bash” Aug. 28. This is a fundraising event in the form of a birthday celebration for Eleanor Qadirah, founder and president of the Rowan Blues and Jazz Society. It will be at the Looking Glass Artist Collective’s blackbox theatre, 405 N. Lee St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the event starts at 8 p.m. There will be dancing to live music by the Salisbury Swing Band with singer Carol Harris. There will also be festival items, special beverages and other activities. Tickets are $10. Proceeds will go to the Rowan Blues and Jazz Society to help finance the Rowan Blues and Jazz Festival which will be held Oct. 10. For more information go to www.rowanbluesandjazz.org.

Rent party with the Rowan Big Band All Stars
On Saturday, Aug. 22, Looking Glass is having a Rent Party with food, beverages and music by the Rowan Big Band All-Stars, a 16-piece big band directed by Ron Turbyfill. Admission is by “pay what you can” donation. Doors open 7 p.m., music starts 7:30 p.m. Come celebrate Looking Glass’ first year in their building, and help them keep the arts alive on the corner of 405 N. Lee Street in Salisbury.
